Filmmaker Pedro Almodovar has received Spain's GENERAL SOCIETY OF AUTHORS AND EDITORS' coveted BUNUEL'S RAZOR BEST MOVIE AWARD for his 2004 drama BAD EDUCATION.

The OSCAR-winning director, who was given the gong by Penelope Cruz at the glittering ceremony (20JUN05), was overwhelmed as it was the first time he had been honoured in his native country for the harrowing movie.

He told the audience, "Bad Education was a movie I had wanted to make for a long time. For some reason I had left it year after year and now that I've done it, I feel I've lifted a weight off me.

"This award is significant and important because it is the only one that I have received in Spain for Bad Education."
