Jennifer Aniston has scored a number one hit with new romantic comedy THE BREAK-UP, after enduring a series film flops. The film, which sees the former Friends beauty starring alongside partner Vince Vaughn, shot to the top of the US box office, knocking blockbuster X-Men: THE NEXT STAND off top spot. The Break-Up earned $38.1 million (GBP21 million) during its first three days of release, stunning industry insiders who believed Brett Ratner's comic book adaptation would remain at number one. The mutant film was bumped into second place with a take of $34.4 million (GBP19 million) in its second week of release, bringing the film's total global earnings to $175.7 (GBP98 million) in 10 days. Animated film OVER THE HEDGE held steady at number three with $20.6 million (GBP11 million), while The Da Vinci Code fell two places to number four with $19.3 million (GBP11 million).
