Audioslave have slammed US President George W Bush on a new song about the aftermath of last year's (05) Hurricane Katrina, marking the first time the politically-conscious supergroup has ventured into campaigning. Despite being made up of three former members of lobbying rockers Rage Against The Machine, Tom Morello, BRAD WILK and TIM COMMERFORD, Audioslave's singer, and ex-Soundgarden frontman, Chris Cornell was initially wary of singing about politics. But, on their as-yet-untitled third album, Audioslave have finally decided to speak out on new track Wide Awake. Morello says, "It's the most political song Audioslave's ever written, and it's a scathing condemnation of the Bush administration's failures in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. "It's a sad, powerful and angry song."
