The Backstreet Boys have gone back in time for their latest music video to portray a fictional 1985 rock band called SPHYNKTER.

Embracing much of the faded fashions of the vintage decade, KEVIN RICHARDSON, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Aj Mclean and Brian Littrell are seen donning mullets, thick moustaches and headbands as they play both the rockers and their fans in the clip accompanying their new single, JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW.

Richardson, who came up with the treatment for the video, tells MTV News, "This is an homage to the rock bands of the '80s and the culture that surrounded it.

"We had a blast. We wanted to do something different. We've done the beefcake videos, we've done the dark, mysterious videos, we've done the performance videos. We wanted to do something fun and crazy and we had a great time.

"We all love playing characters and it was a great opportunity for us to just have a blast and do something crazy."

Richardson is particularly proud of his "heavy make out kinda white trash" scene where he's shown kissing a female reveller with alarming passion.
