Beatles Letter Under The Hammer

A letter that details the dispute that spelt the end of THE Beatles is going up for auction in London on Thursday (05MAY05).

The 1969 note - signed by all four members - informed Sir Paul McCartney's then-music lawyer and father-in-law LEE EASTMAN he was not authorised to represent the HEY JUDE legends as well as McCartney, despite the singer's determination to assign him to the job.

McCartney eventually had to admit defeat after failing to persuade JOHN Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr that Eastman was the perfect manager for the Fab Four.

The letter also features the signatures of the united three, who wanted THE Rolling Stones manager Allen Klein to represent them.

It tells Eastman - who was the father of his late wife LINDA McCARTNEY - he was "not authorised to act... as the attourney (sic) or legal representative of The Beatles or of any of the companies which the Beatles own or control."

The letter is expected to fetch up to $114,000 (GBP60,000) as part of Christie's Pop Memorabilia auction in the British capital.
