Singer Harry Belafonte is urging the American public to vote if they want to truly fight poverty.

The 76-year-old entertainer and civil rights activist lectured at a Cincinnati, Ohio, community organising workshop on Saturday (20SEP03), where he told members of the audience about the importance of choosing who's in charge.

He said, "Voting is the most powerful weapon poor people have. There are a lot more poor people than rich people. So if they'd all vote, we'd win every time."
