Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry forced Sherpas to run up and down Mount Everest to fetch SIR ELTON JOHN CDs - so he could study the music legend's music in preparation for their West End collaboration.

Daldry - who was in Nepal researching for his upcoming film EVEREST - ordered the Tibetan mountaineers stationed 6,000 metres (20,000 feet) up to bring him John's music.

The OSCAR-nominated filmmaker explains, "I had Sherpas dash up the mountain with Elton's music so I could hear it.

"It was very funny."

Daldry and John have joined together to create the stage version of the hit 2000 film about a boy who dreams of becoming a dancer.
