Primal Scream rocker Bobby Gillespie played so many gigs under the influence of drugs in the band's early days he sometimes didn't know what he'd taken.

The ROCKS singer recalls one gig at London's now-closed POWERHAUS venue in summer 1989 when each band member took some less-than-stellar Ecstasy tablets.

He says, "During that period we were taking speed every night, but someone turned up with this really bad Ecstasy, and the whole band took it before we went on.

"It was really weird stuff. Nobody seemed to be able to get in step with it, and each other, and themselves. Our perception of time had changed. It was like everything was spinning. Like, 'What the f*** was that?'"
