Blind tenor Andrea Bocelli is first choice to play disgraced former British politician DAVID BLUNKETT in an upcoming West End, London, musical.

The ill-fated affair between the ex-Home Secretary - who is also blind - and his lover KIMBERLY QUINN will be put to music for the show, which launches to preview audiences in April (05).

And West End bosses are desperate to land the Italian opera star in the lead role.

The show's writer GINNY DOUGARY says, "Andrea Bocelli would be the perfect performer for the role of Blunkett.

"It is like Dangerous Liaisons at the end, the atmosphere of gossip and intrigue at court mixed with recklessness."
