Bull Durham Stars Strike Back
On Monday, (06APR03) Hall of Fame head DALE PETROSKEY sent a letter to the partners - who met on the set of the 1988 movie - calling off the April 26-27 event.
Robbins has now written Petroskey, telling him, "You belong with the cowards and ideologues in a hall of infamy and shame," adding that he did not realize baseball was "a Republican sport" and concluding: "Long live democracy, free speech and the '69 METS - all improbable, glorious miracles that I have always believed in."
Robbins' co-star KEVIN COSTNER said, "I think Tim and Susan's courage is the type of courage that makes our democracy work. Pulling back this invite is against the whole principle we fight for and profess to be about."
Major League Baseball spokesman RICHARD LEVIN said MLB "has nothing to do with the Hall of Fame event. It is not our practice to make political statements."
