I don't think this is egotistical of him at all. He's simply stating facts as he and those close to him see them. I listen to him because I've always loved his music and yes I had a crush on him since the 70s, but the point is he's good. He's dynamic and multi-talented and he can laugh at himself. I also admire the way his family comes first and travel with him. Sure he doesn't look like the puppydog-eyed, long-haired 20 year old I got the crush on but it's still the same man there inside. The man inside is still dynamic, exciting, and talented. I think he'd be interesting to talk to, he's seen and done so much. I'd love the inside scoop on horse breeding and racing. He's just all around interesting.

Please note that the man is not showing arrogant pretention, he is merely quoting that which has been said about him by those who see themselves as experts in such matters. In the opinion of his fanship, Mr. Cassidy is all too modest. The facts are that there are still many fans who find him as attractive, if not more so, than when he was in his youth. Yes, his talent has been honed to a fine edge over the years, and we all appreciate that in him. But when his fans comment about rediscovering him after 25-30 years, their comments tend to reflect surprise at how great he still looks (perhaps as opposed to themselves? I can't say.), sounds and acts.
