ALAN SYTNER, the founder of the legendary Cavern Club made famous by THE Beatles, has died.

Sytner was holidaying in France when he fell ill and passed away yesterday (12JAN06). It was the underground jazz venues of Paris, France which first inspired him to open the Cavern in Liverpool, England in 1957.

The Cavern is hailed as the launchpad for bands such as The Beatles, although Sytner was less than impressed by the rising stars, at one point passing a note to the young John Lennon demanding they "cut out the bloody rock".

Alan Sytner made so many things happen in his life for so many people. He never was a father....but he fathered many young men and women in business and in life....I know, I am one of them! The first guy to ever let me drive a car was Alan Sytner. The first guy I drove within minutes of passing my driving test back in 1973 was Alan Sytner (he allowed me to drive a Ferrari Daytona Spyder Reg no LYK 7K which at the time was thre world's fastest production car). The first guy to encourage me to what lead to a great and rewarding career in the UK motor industry was Alan Sytner Goodbye Alan - from the son you never had - but always had!Ross SmithNow living in Bali, Indonesia

That is sad news of the founder of the Cavern, and it is a shame that not enough has been said about him with regards to the Cavern for which the Beatles made famous.
