Cheadle Wants Hotel Rwanda Spotlight To Shine On Sudan
Cheadle has been nominated for a Best Actor ACADEMY AWARD for his role in the fact-based movie, set during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, and wants to use the publicity to publicise Sudan's civil war, which has already left thousands dead.
And the star hopes to screen the movie to US President George W Bush.
He says, "I'm not naive enough to believe that because we made a movie - and people can draw parallels to the Sudan - it's all going to change.
"There may be a White House screening.
"So during this flush of the Oscars, there's a lot of light on us.
"While attention is being paid, I'm definitely trying to mention the Sudan in every interview I do and appearance I make and keep putting that in front, because I don't want people to say, 'I didn't know.'
"In the past few weeks, I've received a lot of emails from people asking, 'How can I become involved?' That's amazing.
"With enough voices collectively saying 'this will not stand', maybe there is the potential for change and maybe you can draw a line directly back to the film."24/02/2005 17:36
