The New York location of Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly's new horror movie Dark Water gave her the creeps after she discovered it once was a mental asylum.
The actress knew Roosevelt Island was a "special place" after visiting the place on a school field trip with her son Kai, but she had no idea it had such a creepy past.
She says, "I had a sense of what it was like there. The apartment building we shot in was interesting... I learned about it while we were there.
"I would ask, `What is that odd abandoned building?' and I came to learn about its history of madness and illness, what with the asylum and the hospital.
"It's almost like a character in the film, cut off from the life of New York, just on the other side of the river."
