PRINCE IS A MUSICAL GENIUS!!! IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO SEE HIM IN PERSON. HE IS ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED MUSICIANS ON THE PLANET. HE MADE IT TO THE TOP FROM ALL HIS HARD WORK AND WONDERFUL MUSIC THAT HE CREATED. AT THE END OF THE PERFORMANCE, HE GAVE A WARMFILLED SMILE AND ACKNOWLEDGED THE AUDIENCE AND LOOKED OVER THE JUDGES. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SHY. THAT IS WHO HE IS. THE TWINS ARE ACTUALLY FROM AUSTRALIAN IDOL AND ARE VERY TALENTED. I HAVE SEEN HIS 3121 SHOW IN VEGAS TWICE AND IT IS INCREDIBLE!!!! VELVET REVOLVER WAS THERE ALSO. MANY MUSICIANS GO TO SEE HIM IN PERSON EVEN IF THEY DON'T LIKE HIS MUSIC. I ALSO WENT TO THE FABULOUS MUSICOLOGY TOUR. HE IS THE BEST LIVE PERFORMER I HAVE EVER SEEN. prince is a musical god!!! but very mis-understood and much slated. give the guy a break. so he didn't hang around big deal, do you know his schedule for the day , doubtfull! maybe he had other commitments, who knows, he did what he had to, why did he have to stay, he's a private person and doesn't like to critise others even if it's not to his personal taste, i didn't see the show but no doubt he was fantastic as he always is, and as for a has been, who hasn't heard of prince he is a legend,how many musicians have achieved what he has. people knock prince because they don't understand the reasons behind what he does,does he have to justify everything he does (do you?)people have him down as some big headed person who thinks himself above everyone else, why are people so quick to judge others,when they don't know them. we are all strange in our own ways but our lives aren't under constant scrutiny. Simons job is to promote his show which has been on for 5 years. He has been a music executive and producer for a long time. Prince was brought in by his label to promote his album, Prince was brought in by AI to draw in viewers that normally don't watch. Prince has been and always will be an artist with his own convictions and is very private. There is nothing wrong with that.I had the priviledge of playing with him several years ago, and he was quiet and reserved but very respectful and if I had the chance I would do it again.I do know that he is a good man and is quite charitable but is extremely shy and the only place he feels at home is on the stage.So who is right? Simon or Prince? Both are. Simon is right on the business aspect and Prince on his own principles. PS. Prince did not change his name to the Artist to reinvent himself. Do some research before you make uneducated comments. Also, Prince is anexcellent musician. I never cared for his music until I heard him play guitar 5 feet away. Now I respect him a great deal.Not like any of this will save anyone or make a difference in the world. but that is my point of view.Peace to all.......

Okay, a has been is someone who once was and is now trying to get back in the spotlight, but can't keep with the times well enough to make it work like it once did.....Prince fits that category as he really ISN'T what he used to be With FAME comes the price of meeting and greeting with the fans who help get you where you are, treating them respectfully and dealing with a certain amount of paparazzi.....its a well known fact that you will be surrounded with this as a celebrity.....if you can't handle the pressures and/or you're such a private person than this is not the right career choice for you....Prince included!!I think it seems obvious that if Prince or his "people" thought he needed to do AI for some publicity, than his career must not be in as great of shape many of you people are willing to believe.....I think Prince had begun to think this himself awhile back when he tried to "re-invent" himself as "the artist" or whatever he was calling himself.....LOL....nobody lasts forever in the spotlight, so sorry to burst your bubble...but its true!!And some of you are out there watching the show trying to say Prince was the only thing good about it etc ect etc........Oh its such a boring show.....why were you glued to the tv watching such a boring show??? Be honest with yourselves you like it as much as the other millions of viewers out there or this whole thing wouldn't be such a stink to you!!! Simon Cowells drama draws you in as much as anyone else....thats part of what makes the show what it is, you think he isn't aware of that?? Thats how he helps draw in the ratings. Yeah, well, Simon has proved just how far his comments take him in the past...NOWHERE!!! Nobody values his opinions, so he's just wasting breath! The only thing "wrong" w/ Prince is that he holds himself to a higher level of perfection for each and every performance, and I don't see where there's anything wrong with that! And if I were Prince, I wouldn't want the Idol contestants mucking up my songs, new or old, with their off-pitch singing!! As for the non-existent greeting/farewell...the show ran over their allotted time--by the time Prince performed, he was probably told that there was no time for niceties. And who's he going to say "Hello" to anyway...Simon? I think not!! I was GLAD to see Prince even show up for a live television performance...that speaks volumes in itself--he doesn't just do that for ANY show! Simon--go home! Prince--love you always; fantastic performance!

Is Prince related to Wacko Jacko? A duet between Prince & Meatloaf would have been more entertaining. At least Simon is amusing. It would have been better if the contestants would have done a song with THEIR favorite artist (providing they're still living) instead of performers (and I use that term very loosely) who are looking for a boost to their careers.

What did the executives at FOX expect...? controversy!!, that's all that FOX is about in case you hadn't noticed by the trash they broadcast.I would bet money that the FOX execs were hoping for something a little more extreme from the self indulgent, self titled 'Prince', like maybe an accidentally planned exposure of his privates....?To end the show with the 'Prince' of mediocrity was so fitting for what you people have been brain washed to believe is talent.

You guys have to be really kidding me with your comments. Let me start by saying, Prince was not the only artist who performed and walked off. If you watched the show in it's entirety, so did MJB. For those of you who are over 30, you will know that this has always been his style. No interviews, no comments, etc . . . Yes he's a little weird but so are half the people in that industry. As far as him wearing a wig, that is so not true. M.J yes, but Prince in a wig NO.Prince music is not what it use to be, that I will agree. But let's take a real hard look at the music industry and the songs they are actually putting on plastic these days. In my opinion, the days of good music and humble artists are long gone and will never return. American Idol is just another money making reality show that will some day be long gone also.Instead of the criticism of Princes' behavior, let's look at how the music industry has changed drastically.(In a horrid way that is)

Agreeing with Simon is just one thing I don't often do but I will this time. Besides the fact that Prince didn't associate with anyone and things like that.... I don't care for him. I don't know any of his songs, I am not old enough! I know that it was great for some people to see him but, hello, I am 20 and don't know him! I am sure there were others just like me, so the fact that he even appeared was kinda annoying. I don't think he can sing, and he DOESN'T have sex appeal! The thought that he does is laughable! As a remark to Kelly Clarkson not giving Idol the credit for her grammies. Idol didn't give her the grammies, she earned them. He voice, her songs. And it wasn't even Idol that gave her the title "American Idol" it was the American public! For next season's finale maybe they should stick with people who can sing, and are polite enough to arrive on time. Also make sure that the majority of the audiance at the theater and at home know who in the hell they are!

Prince is the man! Which idol could have possibly accompanied him. Who had the vocal range, energy, sex appeal, and smooth moves to not look like an amatuer next to him and have America wondering how they ever made to finals in the competition. He has the one thing most of the popularity contest idol contestant wants to have. The ability to sell out a concert venue with no other headliners after 20 years in the business.

Most of you must either have no clue as to who Prince is or you're just plain stupid. Even the casual Prince fan recognized how much of a bonus it was to see Prince performing live on TV. You can't remember the last time he's done that. All of you clowns that say he's washed up and a "has been" must not know anything about music because I guarantee if concert ticket sales for Prince and the American Idol Loser Tour (for all the people who didn't make the top 2 and who won't have contracts at the time), take place at the same time, Prince's concerts will sellout in minutes. Besides, what did you expect from Prince? He's never been the most polite person and he basically does everything his way. When you get to where he is, you have that option. Now I'm sure Meatloaf (what the hell was that about?) probably hung out with the Idol contestants and probably had to be asked to leave the set, because he doesn't have anything else to do and HE IS washed up, but Prince was not the case. Why hang out with rookies if you're an All-Star? Didn't anyone else notice how Mary J. Blige just stole that song from poor Elliot? She was basically saying the same thing..."I'm the star, you're not, and I'm going to show you why I'm a star...and you're not." And OF COURSE if was self promotion. Who on there besides Clay Aiken, (who provided the funniest piece of the entire show with that Clay Aiken wannabe about to pass out on stage), and perennial Idol personality Burt Baccarach wasn't doing some type of self promotion? Meatloaf (again I ask, "what the hell was that all about?") is coming out with a new record, Toni Braxton is coming out with a new record soon, and Mary J just dropped a record and is probably looking for some cross-over love. Stop hatin. Everybody loved Prince except for Simon. He hates not being the Alpha male.

It's funny how people are siding with Simmon, when he puts people down 3 days or more a week on national TV. For those who hate on Prince and call him names, and side with Simmon amazing get a mirror and reflect on yourself. Look bottom line Prince didn't make it on AI, he got votes through album and ticket sells. He writes his own stuff. Like any real artist would tell you "it's my art, either you dig it or you don't. And if you don't someone will." Just so happens like MJ, The Beetles, Aerosmith, and other great artists billions of people do. Before there was Star Search, Making of the Band, and (yes) American Idol, there was hard work, struggle, do or die, I'm going to make it no matter what people say. Funny things it's the critics who wish they had the balls to sacrifice to make it and see their dreams unfold. So, before we judge him on if he was being a jerk, because Simmon said so. Get your facts right, we know AI sucks and the artsit don't last. But are they artist like the ones I mentioned before? You decide buy your albums and tickets, and will see who America's Idols or Icons really are.

Geesh!! It's amazing that AI has turned people into borderline savages. Postings are filled with hateful comments and when a response is given, ppl attack nastily. One things for sure, AI has allowed America to show it's true colors. Why anyone would care,live and breathe on Simon's opinion is incredible. He gets everyone in a tizzy, gets paid and buys another mansion. I believe he's on what? number 4? Prince is an artist and can deliver a song with facial expression alone. If anything, the idol contestants should have been taking notes on how to be a true entertainer. To read comments about him being rude and a snob, do you all know him personally? Toni Braxton came out mumbled and left, Mary J Blige monopolized the stage but no one said anything. Poor Elliott was not in a duet he was dominated by grandstanding Mary. AI is a cool show. The hatred that is spewed out and posted on message boards, is not cool. I guess we could chalk it all up to youth. This message board has young ppl commenting where AI is of their generation and all they have. You have no history, no background to determine what quality music is or the difference between a pop entertainer and an Artist. What does it say about you as a person, when your comments are reduced to attacking a person on if they wear makeup, a wig or their hieght? Everyone who's an entertainer whether it's live or tv enhances to be more appealing. So lighten up guys with the viscious comments, it's not that critical!!

I will never buy another Prince CD. I was a huge fan, but if he can't even say thanks to your fans, that's a little rude. Prince would never be anywhere if it was not for fans like me. And that goes for any artist. I think Simon had every right to say what ever he wanted. It is his show you should not go on someone else's show for free publicity and be rude and not thank them. And lets face it, Prince needs publicity. So from an Ex-Prince Fan, I say GO SIMON!!! LOVE YOU!!!

I live in Minneapolis and have seen and heard stories from friends about Prince, his royal "rudeness".I attended a concert for an unknown artist at a well known club in St. Paul. One of the artists pregnant wife was seated at a front row table, when in walks this tiny little man dressed in purple with 3 monsterous body guards, who told the woman she had to move and find another seat, that "Prince" was there and this was "his" table. I met the man and he wouldn't even give my 9 year old daughter an autograph.Please Jimmy Jam, find us another minneapolis artist to call our own! Prince is an embarrassment.

Prince is an Artist / Musician - He has a talent to write / Produce music for himself and many other artists - Martika / Sinead O'Connor / The Bangles / Stevie Nicks / Sheena Easton and even Kenny Rogers sang a Prince penned track and the list can go on and on.He has and always will be a Star to those who follow his music. He has over 20 Albums released in his career, he has won countless Music awards.On the other hand, Simon Cowell is a leech, he makes 5 minute pop wonders who came from obscurity, Purely to satisy Cowells bank balance only, before the world tires of the menial drival they force down our ears, which usually consists of more covers than a Blanket shop, Then when Cowell and Co have had enough (Usually a long time after the general public are bored of them)they are spat out into obscurity again.Face reality, Cowell is a leech who uses and abuses his so called Pop Stars to feed his own wealth, He cares nothing of music nor talent. He is self indulgent and arrogant and before slating others should take a long look in the mirror at his own self righteous face.What tickles me the most is half of you who are whining about Prince, probably own 95% of Cowells supposed superstars attempts at music..............Come back in 20 years and tell me Clay Aiken has released 20 + Albums 500 Singles and made more Gold and Platinum discs than a Jewellers.

After Chris Daughtery was voted off, I could have cared less who won the actual competition. Honestly, I only watched the finale to catch a glimps of Chris. When Prince walked out, I literaly fell to my knees screaming. Prince is the SH*T!!!! Just who was supposed to perform with him? Simon should just be happy that Prince took the time to humble himself by coming on the show. Dude had the highest grossing concert last year!! Prince does not have to promote himself. Dude is not only and idol, he's a freakin' ICON! Simon needs to get over himself. Prince came. He saw. He left. That rocks! Prince is too cool for words!

The contestants on idol should worry about being able to sing like Prince instead of worring about his actions. If simon had half the brains that Prince has he wouldnt be hosting a lame show like idol. it was Simons honor to watch prince perform at all he should conceider himself lucky. wow...ok umm where do i start? i have watched american idol for a very long time, and this season, after watching my favorites (Chris and Paris) sadly get voted off, i was trying to quit my television addiction seeing as america has poor taste..then one day the finale happened to be on my TV, with some white-haired jerky moving taylor hicks and kelly klarkson look-a-like Katharine mcphee as the 2 finalists...i was watching all the guest artists perform..yea big whoop, they were all a little too out of [my preffered] style...and i heard Ryan Seacrest say something like "that will be the end of our surprise guests on tonight's show.." and i really felt down..until these two awesome dancers appeared and this sexy MF show up starting to sing his nice-ass shyt...and im like daym thats prince! why dont i ever listen to him..so i dug up some videos and biographies on him and figured he is the best artist ever to be born! (o how i wish i lived thru the 80's!!) Purple Rain is now my favorite song... anyway, I thought it was an awesome surprise to see someone actually GOOD perform on that show better than all the previous seasons and i can't beleive there are so many ungreatful people out there...Simon has always been an ass, and its not unlikely for him 2 say something like that...about who would win a fight? quite frankly i dont give 2 shyts. and I LOVE Prince's eye liner and heels..all u haters are just jealous cuz u cant pull it off like him and u dont have (nor will ever have) as much fame and awesomeness towered upon you as this sexy MF does. bytchez

Ok, the artist FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE (HAHAHAHA) was on his way to being a has been long before he was an "IS" back in the 80's with the whole Purple Rain stupidity. He had fanatics, not fans. I agree with Simon. He's rude and a little too old to be such a spoiled little brat. His sole purpose was to promote his lame ass self and used the American Idol phenomenon to do so because it had the highest ratings he could have gotten anywhere. And just for the record, the American Idol concerts sell far more than a Prince concert does everywhere they go. The Artist, or whatever his symbol was, might sell out in Minnesota, but not here in California, where we have better singers and performers!

I am an old Prince Fan from the Purple Rain days. I have always loved his music and his mystyque. Simon is a social jerk who never really says a lot of good about anyone. But, he is right. Prince lost me for this argument when he slipped out not saying high to the Idol folks. That was rude even if he had a good reason. Communication is always a good thing. Prince is an artist. So what if he doesn't give no talent ass clowns a second look, he probably had a party to go to. American Idol thinks they are the crem de la crem when in reality they are nothing but a bunch of wannabes. Simon might be able to judge a good voice but he doesn't know s**t about a good artist. Artists write their own lyrics, and Prince has been doing his think for 3 decades, s**t he beat out Michael Jackson... Popularity comes and goes, there will always be someone to hate on you, wish you'd do something for them, the good artists know a good business deal, and unfortunately for Idol, they are the short end of the stick. That was just annoying. His songs were bad, his performance was bad, he looked nothing short of a woman who's depressed, and he didn't even say thank you for a huge promotion on possibly the biggest TV event of the year. Simon may be cruel, but he can be right at the same time.

Yes, Prince played the part of a big pop diva. But that's who he is. He has never pretended to be anything different. He is not the "warm and fuzzy" pop star who signs autographs for hours or hugs all his fans. I am sure the idol judges had to knwo what he was like before his appearance there. Well, didn't all the other celebrities do the same thing? Yes, they sang with the contestants, but did they interact with the audience or anything? I didn't think they did. That is Prince for you though; he's cool. I thought it was kind of funny how he just got done and smiled and then gave Ryan a look like, "See, I did make it," and then turned and sauntered off the stage.

Prince Who? I have watched singers, stay on top for years, making one hit after another. They change, they adapt they move ahead. The prince of Purple has long ago let his flame flicker and die in the wind. Getting on top is easy, staying on top is diffacult. Prince had what it took to get ther, but but none of what it took to stay there.

I used to like Prince 1000 years ago, when he was somebody, but now he is just a pompous ass. The show would have done just fine without his lousy, last-minute appearance. The two songs he did sucked anyway. The only reason he even made that appearance is because his people told him it would boost his new album sales, which are not so hot.The LEAST he could have done is to say hello to the Idol contestants and have a small greeting with the audience. Prince, it's no wonder you're a has-been. Get a life.

apparently simon didnt do his homework and doesnt know american pop so well. Prince didnt do anything he hasnt already been known to do. Hell I can remember when he didnt do interviews and when he did appear on TV he usually made sure his appearance was controversial..... hence his song Controversy. As for Simon's comments, nothing he can say will ever hurt Prince's career. Prince is exceptionally talented, and his true fans respect his eccentrism and dont expect him to shuck and jive for the camera to feel they are appreciated. His true fans know his crazy recluse azz needs to stay on the go and in the studio so he can put out the next hit, and we'll catch him at his next hit or miss tour! Prince has been around in the business for what 20+ years..... in 2012 VH-1 will be doing a where are they now on American Pop Idols, whereas Prince will probably still be recording.I love you Prince.

ACTUALLY-- Simon is right we already have enough proud no good "idols" ruining the world. I think the differnce between American Idol winners and celebrities is American Idols keep it real. They dont forget where they came from... Prince is such a loser... and he proved it when he came out! I hope his album bombs!

Well lets tell it how it is, Prince is a superstar and they were lucky he would even give them the time of day much less come and perform. They should be thankful that he even agree to be there, esp. given the pitaful about of talent shown on this years show, taylor hicks is a joke who will sell as many record as me. Of i was prince i wouldnt have stuck arounf for that crap either. why do you think the show had to filled with surprise star singers in the first place, because the contestants sucked and everyone new it. the only person on that show worth listen to was Chris and you blew him off. so my advise next time get some contestants that can sing and you won't need so may stars that you can bitch about to fill your show.

Prince rocks! When has he ever spoken while performing? Some real artists let their music do the talking. Was that his best venue? Heck no, but don't forget who's concerts were #1 last year. Not any single contestant on or winner of American Idol can ever touch his musical genius in writing and performing. He didn't give in to corporate greed like Mr. Simon Coward(sic), that Coca-Cola cup flashing queen of the one liners.....so puleaaase...if you think what you saw on AI even touches this man's genius, you better load those Ipods with the full repertoire of Prince, one of the most talented human beings to ever grace our presence and find out what the real deal is......

This is so absurd. Cowell is just adding some additional points to boost his show by even commenting on Prince's behavior. Cowell knows a money maker when he sees it and the mere mention of Prince will make him more money than many of you so called "Prince haters" will ever make. The man. Prince, transcends all age groups, race and backgrounds. At any of his concerts you will find a complete array of different people even the close-minded ones like some of the previous post suggests, are representing at his concerts. Simon isn't stupid. He prayed Prince would come to the show, Prince showed and it was beyond polite of him to do so, cause face it; the man doesn't have to work another day in his life if he choose. He is PRINCE. He can do whatever he wants and Simon wants to get more publicity out of PRINCE.

My,my are we all a bit testy.Lets get some facts straight.Prince has been around from the late seventies. He has released a recording almost every other year in that time. He got a recording contract the real way, he earned it and a label thought he was good enough to sign. I agree.In that time he has sold multiple gold(500,000 units sold) and platnium(1,000,000 + sold) selling records.He success is multifaceted.He composes,arranges,sings and plays practically every instrument out there.This and he writes hit that other artists have recorded. He runs his own music label and went from making less than 10 million a year when he was with warner Brothers to make 90+ million doing on his own. This and the fact that he did have the highest grossing tour in 2005 amoung any act touring that year.Prince has earned the right to show up, play,and leave if he wishes.Hes earned it many times over. We all know he a very private person. It is not his this to go around being buddy witht he cast of the newest redition of Star Search.As for the has-been comment,you people really have no clue as to waht atrue preformer/musician is.Has beens are people that are no longer recording ,no one sees and none will pay money to preform. If youre looking for has beens try all the AI winners and runner ups from every season with exception of Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken. Pot, this is kettle.... you're black.So Simon feels slighted by Prince's lack of manners & congeniality??? Dude, we got a HYPOCRITE in the house tonight!!!I watched the finale, as well as every other episode of the season. I voted many, many times by phone. And most of those times I was in lock-step agreement with Cowell's critiques of the Idol's performances. But let me tell Simon & the world... Prince's three minutes on stage MADE THE SHOW! He truly rocked the house, brought it, made it his own, etc... I am no huge Prince fan... I'm not even a POP MUSIC fan. I like seeing the rags to riches transformation of kids with talent into seasoned stars. For Simon to rip Prince over being a primadonna is funnier than it is anything else. Prince did what Prince does best SHOCK & AWE baby! I felt it was highlight of the season, topping every Idol performance before it, and was just all-around fun to hear and see. Simon just didn't have anything else to criticize Prince about.-Stimpygato out.

Prince dashes out quickly because he's insecure about HOW MUCH MAKEUP he wears, and also because of his wig. Yep, he wears a wig just like Wacko Jacko does. Just like Michael who also wears very heavy makeup and doesn't like to be seen by people close up. Prince is a tired drag queen.

Prince may be introverted, but not arrogant. The only person who would say something like this about Prince is someone who doesn't know him, or about his style. Prince seldom addresses people directly, instead deferring to proxies and intermediaries speaking on his behalf. He's been more than generous with his time and money in our own community (home to Paisley Park), and one can only imagine that he was put off by the wanton disrespect shown to the real value he brought to American Idol. You have to realize also that Prince had the #1 concert tour in 2005, and the American Idol Tour competes for venues and concert goer $. The fact he even showed for AI was a blessing for AI and Prince's fans.Minnesotan's aren't impressed by the Simon Cowell's of the world. Prince arrived, he performed, and he left. Does Simon really need a friend so bad that he expected Prince to stick around for tea after the show, so Simon could get 5 more minutes of fame by being photographed with an artist 100x more talented than he?Prince rocks!!

Has been? 3121 debuted at #1 just a couple of months ago. Prince will be around when all these wannabes are gone and forgotten. As for Prince being rude...at least he didn't stand there and say nasty things to and about the contestants like Simon does week after week.

Why would anyone be surprised by Princes freakish behavior. He is just another in a long line of self important celebrities who are out of touch with anything even remotely connected to the real world. Some day Prince will be noithing more then a trivia question and there will be another flavor of the day to take his place.
