Cruise Attacks Psychiatric Drugs Again

Tom Cruise is attacking those who prescribe psychiatric drugs again in the May (06) issue of men's style magazine GQ. The actor, who embarked on an anti-drug tirade in TV interviews last summer (05) on behalf of his Scientology beliefs, has launched a fresh attack on psychiatry, calling for prescription pill poppers to think carefully about the harms they're doing to their bodies. He tells the magazine, "I've always found the 'if it makes me feel better, it's OK' rationale a little suspect. "I think it's appalling that people have to live a life of drug addiction when I have personally helped people get off drugs." In the interview, the actor claims he can get someone off heroin in three days through Scientology's detox programmes.

P.S: As Mr. Cruise's behavior has deterioriated in the last few years, my question would be, "Does he have an inkling that something might be wrong with himself and his lashing out at psychiatry and medications is his way of pushing it away, the ultimate denial?" Of couse, it would be very embarassing for him to have to admit he was wrong.

My story:46 yrs, male, Married 24 yrs, 4 kids I very slowly became more and more ill. Finally I had problems working. At a low point I was on State Disablity for "chemical exposure", and had a workers comp claim open for the same, because doctors could not figure out why I was sick. I was very depressed, on food stamps(wife is homemaker), every joint in my body hurt, I was irrational at times, wore the same clothes every day, was hot headed at times, was a cry baby sometimes, I walked around aimlessly for hours or sleeped. Over ten years time we lost our nice home in the burbs, filed Bankrupt, drove one old car. (my dad also let me drive his truck) A family doctor from church started helping me last year. He gave me thousands of Dollars of care. ulimatly, and to my suprise I am on a psychiatric drug. Now I am clear minded, working again, I bought my wife a nice 2006 SUV, and I bought myself a Dodge Ram 1500 4 X 4 that rumbles:) I work everyday, started repairing our old mobile home that has been the roof overhead for the last 4 years. Am NOT hot headed, irrational, and my joints no longer hurt. I have no side effects!Tom, my email is at tourmolane@sbcglobal.net If you give me a chance I would be ok with telling you all the details good, bad and ugly. You will see that I am normal now. If you want to pay my bills I will go off my meds for as long as you want. But you have to pay for my losses (if any) and pay to put my wife in a some nice digs here in town, I will stay at my mobil home, because she is the best, and should not have to go through hell again. Tom, if you cant help me you have got to at least pay for my treatment again because my Doc. already gave me free care once, and its not fair for me to go running back to him if you ditch me. This is a serious offer! Its not right for you to hurt people with your talk unless you are telling the truth. I will give you as much time as you need, but realize that you cant make people believe in, or have faith in something, and then but if you have a mind technique or something elce lets do it. Jesus was able to use the believe thing because he could heal people on the spot. I hope you are not trying to be Jesus, that is going to be real uncomfortable. Email me Tom (Mr. Cruise kind of sounds like I am trying to be insulting, so I hope first name is OK) Mine is Jimmy.Email me, we can talk.Jimmy

"Honestly, I believe most of the respondents are out of their league to begin to comment." Funny, I find that eerily similar to: "You don't know the history of psychology, I do!!" ...And that's exactly my problem with Tom Cruise. It's not that his arguments are ridiculous. In fact, the high-school-dropout-turned-psychiatry-expert makes some concededly valid points. It's his presentation of his views - brash, obnoxiously paternalistic arrogance coupled with blatant ignorance in failing to merely acknowledge situations where there is a legitimate need for such medication - that makes him so irritating and robs him of any real credibility.

It is about the person. [This is a celebrity site, not a pharmaceutical site, if you also allegedly can read.] Tom Cruise is so pathetic that he needs to belong to a cult. The cult demands everyone parrot the same beliefs. If TC did not belong to this ridiculous cult he wouldn't say a word about drugs. Proof? TC isn't passionate about anything in his life, except for the demands of Scientology membership.Now, quit criticizing folks who are doing nothing more than calling a crazy dweeb by his rightful name.

Cruise = Cult Puppet's picture

Cruise = Cult Puppet

Stay on topic sammcbee. You don’t have to write a “quantity over quality” post to prove your point that psychotropic drugs are over-precribed in the US. The real topic is how Tom uses this as a “gateway issue” for his evil cult/con game. Scientologists would love for you to believe that they’re only against psychotropic drugs. Wrong!!! I know one ex-Scientologist who has epilepsy and was forced to get off her meds by the cult. After knocking all of her front teeth out from having a seizure in the shower, she decided these freaks didn’t know what was best for her body. Keep trying to whitewash your cult drones. I’ll be there wherever you show up!!!

Tom, Tom, Tom, You really need to go to the Lord in prayer. You are missing the truth that is written and perscribed in THE Bible. Like many actors you seek validation in outside sources when true validation and everasting life is readily available to you. Put down your fiction novels by L Ron. God will forgive you for all your sins including adultery, homosexuality, and even your last affliction STUPIDITY if you go to him in honest prayer. I will pray for your sole because Lord knows you need it.

Well gee, Heroin or "Meth" are certainly chemically addictive & a horror to ones body & the lives of those victims & those who love them... but there is NO correspondence to Cruises anecdote about them and the fact that Mental Illness is not an addiction or a personal weakness etc.Mental Illness is a physiological / physical illness. It is a body based disease that can have many causes. If in order to replace the processes in those with mental illness who have certain deficits in certain areas of their bodies or brains, these people use Medicine to help make their lives bearable, this is a whole different thing.It seems to me that the fact that Stumpy Cruise can't see the immediate & logical, complete differences in these to issues smacks of some personal denial.. this in it's self may be very revealing.There is no reason that a person who sadly suffers from Mental Illness should get continually thrown into the catagory or weak, sickos, instead of what they are, people who suffer & have a disease no different and out of their control than Cancer, Lymphoma etc.. but there is never any sympathy or understanding for the mentally ill, it seems that old prejudices that are backed by ignorance and intolerance still prevail.. and Cruise is like the bright Burning Cross that keeps these views in the publics eye & via his "status" as a "Star" he uses it for all it's worth.

not L Ron Hubbard's picture

not L Ron Hubbard

If you've done any research into Scientology, then you'll know why Tom Cruise does and says what he does. It seems to me he genuinely believes what he says--it's not an act, folks. He's genuinely brainwashed by this mind controlling group.15 minutes of research into the life of L. Ron Hubbard will show you EXACTLY why Scientology is what it is.Here're the highlights, but you should research it yourself:When he "invented" Dianetics in the 1950s, he claimed it could cure drug addiction (heroin), psychosis, paranoia, the common cold, the flu, even radiation poisoning. His goal was to make psychiatry available to the common man, and it was his job to "sell" his techniques to evey person on the planet. Biggest problem was, it didn't work.Not only did Dianetics not do anything Hubbard claimed it would, but it "worried" the American Medical Association because he was the newest "snake-oil" salesman and his snake oil was possibly dangers.Mostly, the AMA said that what he was doing was "putting people into a low level trance" and literally hypnotizing them into believing they felt better after an "auditing" session.When the initial craze of Dianetics ended, due to legal copywrights (Hubbard wanted to default on Dianetics debts) he changed the name to Scientology, called it a church (to avoid paying taxes, and the scrutiny of the AMA and other genuine medical bodies) and started targeting rich people and celebrities as clients. It was only strategy that Hubbard called psychiatry, psychology and any other medical profession a bunch of quacks. He wanted their patients. What better way to say you have a better mousetrap than to point out how evil the current mousetrap is.Hubbard will go down in history as the best, most profitable, and most "well-respected" flim-flam man in this country's history. No matter what Tom Cruise says.But again, you should do this research yourself.

Let me see if I understand you Brandon. You are all for diversity of thought and differing opitnions, as long it agrees with your current thought? People do have a right to see or not see whatever they choose. The best way to offer an opinion up is usually by hitting them in their pocketbook. To this we agree, but please respect others opinions EVEN if they happen to differ from yours. But calling someone a fanatic for not having your same opinion and then in the same breath saying differing opinions are good for diversity is rather hypocritical.
