Pink Floyd's DARK SIDE OF THE MOON has been voted the Most Life-Changing Song by BBC Radio 2 listeners in Britain. Radio host JEREMY VINE invited listeners to choose the song with the most power as part of the station's new interactive music club. He explains, "Dark Side of the Moon won hands down. People just love it. For its mammoth sense of scale and all the invention, it's still wonderful." Pink Floyd vocalist and guitarist DAVID GILMOUR adds, "It's fantastic. What can I say except be thrilled. It's a good combination of great music and great lyrics. "It's music for people who have a brain as well as a soul, I think. The themes are just as relevant today as they were 33 years ago." The song received 23 per cent of the total votes and was joined in the final by THE BEACH BOYS' GOD ONLY KNOWS with 16 per cent and Jeff Buckley's HALLELUJAH with 17 per cent. Other songs in the running included REM's EVERYBODY HURTS and John Lennon's IMAGINE.

It is important to remember that Pink Floyd, with their Dark Side of the Moon would never have been possible without the Beatles. Especially with Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Band (which should have been voted most life changing album) because it was the first concept album that left behind such a legacy of excellent techniques and sound affects that made Pink Floyd's concept albums possible. It is ridiculous how most people are so reluctant to look back further than 35 years, as if they feel that if they did they would be seen as being too old. So therefore I would prefer to disregard that Radio 2 survey.

There is no comparisome between Sgt Pepper & Dark Side. They are light years apart. In terms of concept Sgt Pepper is not a concept album. It's basically just a collection of songs slung together. Not the same thing at all.Sgt Pepper was 'clinicly' put together.Dark Side evolved as a work of art, this is why it has stood the test of time.It is absolutely amazing how people continue to denigrate Pink Floyd's achievements
