Actor Benicio Del Toro was recently paid a staggering $5 million (GBP2.7 million) - for doing nothing.

Del Toro, 38, was recruited to star in a Denzel Washington thriller, but the Hollywood studio pulled the picture for fear it would be more expensive than first expected.

However, by this time Del Toro's money was in the bank.

He says, "I got paid for a Denzel Washington movie called AMERICAN GANGSTER about a drug dealer in the 1970s, but it fell through a week or two before filming.

"So I got caught with nothing to do. It's pretty good."
