Ousted Libertines rocker Pete Doherty has been banned from an exclusive London club for destroying a prestigious work of art.

The rocker was performing a charity gig at the capital's Groucho Club with his other band Babyshambles when he jumped off the stage and tore a metal sculpture worth $180,000 (GBP100,000) from the ceiling, leaving it shattered on the ground.

A shocked guest tells British newspaper The Sun, "Pete grabbed this sculpture and it fell to pieces on the floor. He fled straight after the show. Staff made it clear they never want to see him in their club again."

Doherty's spokesperson said the singer has not yet been asked to pay for the damage.
