Domingo Cancels Opera Performance

Placido Domingo has called off his appearance in Wagner opera DIE WALKURE in Paris this April (06) - insisting he hasn't had enough time to prepare for the role.

The busy 71-year-old tenor claims he would rather hand the part to someone else than perform it according to the ideas of director ROBERT WILSON.

He says, "Unfortunately, my timetable does not allow me to be fully devoted to such intensive work.

"Rather than performing an approximation of (Wilson's) conception, it is my duty ... to withdraw so that another singer, who will have more rehearsal time, can make that conception his own."

Domingo would have played the role of SIEGMUND, previously performed by PETER SEIFFERT.
