Elton John's Clothes Sale Raises Thousands
LATEST: SIR Elton John's annual sale of his wardrobe cast-offs has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help combat AIDS. A spokeswoman for organisers, MAYA ISRAEL, confirmed more than $700,000 (GBP400,000) had been counted, all of which will go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The five day sale saw 10,000 dazzling garments up for grabs, including the polka-dot RICHARD JAMES creation John wore to duet with hip-hop star Eminem at the 2001 Grammy Awards. At the other end of the price scale, T-shirts formerly belonging to the flamboyant singer and his partner David Furnish were snapped up for as little as $15 (GBP8.50). John says, "David and I had great fun collecting and wearing these extraordinary clothes, but it's even more satisfying to see them help raise money."
