Live 8 organisers SIR Bob Geldof and Bono were furious when rapper Eminem refused to return their phonecalls about performing at the poverty awareness bash.

They sent the STAN hitmaker photographs of African fans wearing Eminem t-shirts in an effort to persuade him to join the Live 8 line-up, only to be totally ignored.

Geldof says, "Bono called me while I was in Africa and said 'he's (Eminem) not calling me back. I've got these pictures of kids wearing Eminem and D-12 t-shirts and we got them sent off to Eminem's office but did we hear anything? It's sad.'

He added, "If people don't want to do anything, then it's cool, I'm ok with that, but I wouldn't mind if they got back to us."

I totally mucked up my last post in response to HYPERTHREAD's remarks on John Lennon, the song "Imagine," and our "sinful nature."MY COMMENTS:Taking refuge in religiously fundamentalist approaches when confronted by the complexities and "chaos" of the post-modern world is totally understandable.Like the Taliban, Al Qaida and many Christian sects, HYPERTHREAD has put his wagons in a circle. The problem with his approach, however, is in keeping the evildoers from penetrating the defenses one also can inadvertently keep out the real, the true and the moral as well.Actually, Lennon's song clearly resonates with mainstream Christian theological scholarship. We all need to be vigilant about taking care to separate what Jesus actually said to what was said about him in the New Testament. Turning to the Psalms or to the apostle Paul are certainly useful, but they must be seen as the varnish which overlays the authentic words and deeds of Jesus of Nazareth.As Lennon once observed in his "Beatle days," Christianity IS "vanishing and shrinking." Jesus himself, Lennon once remarked, was "okay" but has been obscured by the density of his followers who came after him."Bible Study" is actually "studying the Bible." We all need to strike a blow for biblical literacy and let the real Jesus speak for himself.

It is possible that Eminem thinks, like many others, that you can't solve the poverty problems in Africa until you get rid of the corruption in those governments. Millionaire rock stars can dance around and sing until their eyes snap shut but the truth is, hippies never solved anything.

Dear Bush Rules,I'd rather be "bankrupt" than "corrupt" - at least one can come back from bankruptcy, corruption is a deterioration of moral and ethical fiber. How do possibly you maintain your stance when just about every key member of this administration is facing indictment or has already been indicted? Or do you live on another planet?

Smokey,On your comment..“Caring musicians who have to have an above average intelligence to earn a spot on the stage”Wow, talk about a bunch of logical fallacies, and this coming from someone who buys into the intellectual elitism of the radical left and entertainment industry.Did the “artists” who performed on stage have to pass an IQ test, or submit and essay on the current geopolitical situation in Africa? Or is your assumption that they are “above average intelligence” just presumed (like everything else)???How do you know the musicians actually care, because they tell you they do?What a tool, most musicians are self absorbed elite millionaires who can’t put the needle down long enough to care for themselves, let alone a starving corrupt continent (how is that for presumption).Elitism sucks and MetroSpy is right, until the dictator scumbags who rule the African nations are eliminated, no amount of fake “I care about Africa” concerts will fix the problem.

Bushie,I make no excuses for "my man" Bill Clinton (who is, by the way, NOT). He did what he did and he paid a price. However, what Bill Clinton did utterly and absolutely pales against what has happened within the administration of your man George W. and HIS men Cheney, Rumsefeld, etc. It becoming apparent that they brought this country into a war in Iraq, from which it is unlikely we will be able to remove ourselves for many, many years, on the basis of lying to the American people. And, in addition, how do you explain away that hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer dollars are going to your man Dick Cheney's former firm, Halliburton, and its subsidiaries, on NO BID, NON-COMPETITIVE awards for reconstruction work around the globe ... ??? How are they POSSIBLY getting away with that.Ultimately, it's the American people who are going to have to answer for the entrenched corruption of this administration. As Americans we need to stand up to your MEN (Condi, Gale Norton, etc., included) and make them do what the Founders of this nation established as necessary for the effective functioning of a democracy: providing the truth to the American people so that the people can make up their own minds and either keep a good administration in office, or kick out the people like GWB and his crowd when they step beyond the limits of their powers.And I predict the "demonrats" will be back in full sway after the the next couple of election cycles.Open your eyes Bushie, or come down and visit us on earth, here in America, and observe how the current administration is functioning with impunity outside the boundaries of the American justice system and outside the bounds of the American Constitution. One does not need to be Republican to love his/her country and want to ensure that it continues to be strong and respected around the world. This administration is losing on both these counts.

On the surface one might say that Lennon was a visionary who saw past the evils in the world. The problem though is mankind is inherently flawed, and corrupt. Not because, as some would say we have learned hate, but because we have as the bible says, a sin nature.The answer to John Lennon's question is answered by Jesus Christ. Psalm 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, [and] all the nations that forget God. He also said: Rom 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

I do not think how Eminem does not care about Live 8and what they tried to do......From all that he is doing and saying.....with his musik and attitude he is trying his way to make the world better....I would like to here his part of the story first...before making any judgementAnd its is strange from him not to comment....

Smokey+++++++++...

I don't remember seeing any "communist-loving hippies" at a Live 8 concert... mostly I saw caring musicians who have to be above average intelligent to have earned a spot on that stage...and we can always find an excuse not to help somebody when they are down...
