SILENCE OF THE LAMBS star Scott Glenn is fighting to save his controversial war comedy BUFFALO SOLDIERS from obscurity.

The Miramax movie about a corrupt soldier, played by Joaquin Phoenix, and his efforts to sell off weapons and gear to terrorist groups has been blasted in America for being insensitive.

A victim of the country's hard-line patriotism following the September 11 terrorist attacks and the Iraqi conflict, the film has made a paltry $30,977 (GBP19,360) in two weeks.

Movie bosses are planning to expand the film so that it appears in more cinemas - and Glenn, who plays a hard-nosed SERGEANT ROBERT E. LEE in the project, is on the warpath.

He says, "What surprises me is that a number of people who have a hard time with this film haven't seen it. We're really not talking about a movie at all."

And, as for people who question his patriotism for taking part in the film, Glenn adds, "1958907 - my serial number in the United States Marine Corps."

Meanwhile ROBERT O'CONNOR, the writer of the book on which the film is based, has revealed his step-daughter was among the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks on America in 2001, which ironically took place the day after he first saw the finished print of the film at the TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL in Canada.
