Gorillaz have jumped straight in at the top of the UK singles chart with DARE, knocking OASIS' THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE off the number one spot and down to number five.

In what was promoted as a rematch of the infamous Blur versus Oasis chart battle of 1995, in which Blur's COUNTRY HOUSE beat Oasis' ROLL WITH IT to number one, Blur/Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn has again emerged triumphant.

In second place for the second week is Rihanna with PON DE REPLAY, while DANIEL POWTER sits at number three with BAD DAY.

Jessica Simpson's cover of Nancy Sinatra's THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKIN' is a new entry at number four.

Meanwhile, in the UK albums chart boyband McFly have gone straight to number one with their new album Wonderland, while Kanye West is another new entry with Late Registration at number two.

Following seven weeks at number one, James Blunt's BACK TO BEDLAM slips to third place, while last week's number three, Coldplay's X+Y, moves down to number four.

Kaiser Chiefs disc EMPLOYMENT also falls a place to number five.
