Gorillaz Win Web Award
Animated group Gorillaz have won more accolades for their technological talents, picking up a Webby Award alongside the likes of networking website MySpace.com and internet co-inventor DR ROBERT KAHN. The band, created by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and animator JAMIE HEWLETT, were named Webby Artist Of The Year ahead of a prize-giving ceremony in New York City on 12 June (06). According to organisers, Gorillaz have been recognised as "pioneers in fusing music and animation", which was manifested in their ambitious run of Demon Days Live shows in Manchester, England, and New York City. The group will be limited to just five words in their acceptance speech. Last year's (05) Webby Lifetime Achievement Award honoree Al Gore delighted the audience by pleading, "Please don't recount this vote." The Webby winners, decided by the International Academy Of The Digital Arts And Sciences, were announced today (09MAY06) in 69 business, consumer and culture categories.
