French rocker Johnny Hallyday refused to take to the stage at Saturday night's (21JAN06) NRJ Music Awards in Cannes, France, after he was asked to lip sync.

The 62-year-old was originally scheduled to sing live with French rappers DOC GYNECO, STOMY BUGSY and PASSI - but technical difficulties forced organisers to request the acts to mime.

Hallyday insisted he would only perform live, so a video of rehearsals filmed earlier in the day was screened instead.

A source tells French newspaper Le Parisien, "Johnny Hallyday was really angry. He didn't want a non-live performance. He told them that without a live performance, he would not go on stage."
