Hetfield: 'Charity Award Means More Than A Grammy'

METALLICA frontman JAMES HETFIELD has dismissed his seven Grammy wins as unimportant compared to the charity accolade he will receive tomorrow (12MAY06). The singer will be presented with the STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, which helps people in the music industry receive addiction treatment, in a Hollywood ceremony tomorrow evening. But despite his clutch of glittering musical accolades, Hetfield insists the charity honour gives him the most pride and is begging his friends and family to join him on the night. He says, "I noticed I've been inviting everyone I know to this thing as opposed to the Grammys or some other awards show. "It's very different. I guess I never thought of inviting family to other stuff. But this is obviously something I'm more proud of. "It's more of a lifestyle instead of an accolade of what you've accomplished. This is more internal for me." The evening will feature performances by a host of special musical guests including ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist JERRY CANTRELL and drummer SEAN KINNEY, as well as Metallica bassist ROBERT TRUJILLO.
