Singer/songwriter Missy Higgins and rock group Jet were the big winners at the AUSTRALASIAN PERFORMING RIGHT ASSOCIATION AWARDS (APRAAS) in Sydney on Monday (30MAY05).

Higgins, 21, picked up the Breakthrough Award, Song of the Year for SCAR and shared the Writing trophy with KEVIN GRIFFIN - who co-wrote Scar - at the star-studded ceremony in Sydney's Four Seasons Hotel.

Melbourne foursome Jet were named Songwriters Of The Year and recognised for their international success with Most Performed Australian Work Overseas for ARE YOU GONNA BE MY GIRL.

Unable to attend the ceremony in person, frontman NIC CESTER said in a pre-recorded message, "This is a real honour to receive this award. There have been so many people who have helped make this album pretty successful. We've had fun over the past two years."

Performers at the bash included country singer Kasey Chambers, Eskimo Joe, Evermore and MELINDA SCHNEIDER.

Most Performed Country Work: KASEY CHAMBERS for LIKE A RIVER

Most Performed Dance Work: Daniel Merriweather for CITY RULES

Most Performed Australian Work Overseas: JET for ARE YOU GONNA BE MY GIRL

Most Performed Jazz Work: THE NECKS for Drive By.
