Hoffman Lost 40 Pounds To Play Capote
Hoffman was surprised when the lead role in CAPOTE was offered to him because he thought he looked nothing like the Breakfast at Tiffany's author, but he knew how to fool film fans to thinking he was small and thin.
He says, "It's embarrassing; I was really heavy when I took on this job. (I lost) about 40 pounds. There was no way around it; I mean Capote was about five (foot) four (inches).
"He was a diminutive man and I had to create an illusion and I knew one way to create that illusion was if I got as thin as possible and I could wear certain things that would slim me down and it would help that."
