Iglesias Accused Of Tax Evasion
Latin lothario Julio Iglesias has been accused of embezzlement and tax evasion in his native Spain.
THE SOCIALIST PARTY of the eastern Valencia region lodged a complaint against the TO ALL THE GIRLS I'VE LOVED BEFORE singer in the Supreme Court, and also name former regional prime minister EDUARDO ZAPLANA as an offender, in connection with a 1997 publicity campaign.
The 60-year-old's contract stipulated he would be paid 2.3 million euros (GBP1.54 million/$2.77 million) for promoting the Valencia region abroad.
The complaint alleges Iglesias was paid 6 million euros (GBP4.01 million/$7.21 million) tax free instead.12/05/2004 17:22
