Kanye West Slams Bush
Hip-hop singer Kanye West launched an attack on President Bush and the American media during a televised fundraising concert for victims of Hurricane Katrina on Friday (02SEP05).
The DIAMONDS FROM SIERRA LEONE rapper is convinced the US government was slow to react in the aftermath of the natural disaster centred in New Orleans, Louisiana, because the majority of the city's population is African-American.
He fumed at the New York City show, "If you see a black family it's looting but if it's a white family they are looking for food. We realise that a lot of people who could help are at war fighting another way (but) now they have given (the army) permission to go down and shoot us."
The NBC network cut most of West's comments from repeat broadcasts but rising anger among African-Americans in New Orleans was reported after his outburst.
