Singer Jewel was inspired to form her own charity after falling sick with a kidney infection when she was too poor to afford clean water and healthcare. The pop star was waiting for her big break in the music industry and barely had enough money to survive. The INTUITION singer explains, "I was writing music, living in my car, getting by on five dollars a day. I had kidney problems, and I had no money for medicine. "Instead, I was told to drink as much bottled water as I could. Do you know how expensive bottled water is? "I began thinking about how great the cost of clean water must be for people in the third-world countries. I decided if I was ever in a position to help these people, I would." Jewel recently founded The Clear Water Project to help combat water scarcity and pollution in third-world countries by building wells. A portion of every concert ticket sold goes to fund the charity.
