Marilyn Monroe's Final Resting Place Becomes Cinema

The Hollywood cemetery which houses the likes of Marilyn Monroe and ALFRED HITCHCOCK has taken on a bizarre new role - as a drive-in cinema.

On Sunday evening (29JUN03), over 2,000 people - including Hollywood heavyweights Michael Mann, Mario Van Peebles and BOSTON PUBLIC star Nicky Katt - brought their blankets, picnic baskets and beverages to the HOLLYWOOD FOREVER CEMETERY to watch the Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck classic comedy BALL OF FIRE.

The unconventional event, which takes place every fortnight, is organised by Los Angeles film society CINESPIA, where the movies are projected onto the side on a mausoleum.

The flick trip also includes pre-screening movie music from Hollywood DJ and Cinespia member David Hollander, who explains, "It's in order to set just the right mood."

Organiser JOHN WYATT declares, "People have been finding out about this event through word of mouth because we haven't done any advertising. There were about 600 people at the first screening, but now it seems to have taken on a life of its own."
