Rocker Dave Matthews has slammed people who rely on God to solve their problems, rather than go out and deal with their issues themselves.

The South African-born musician is sceptical about religion in general, and he brands people who leave their entire destiny in the hands of a higher being "ignorant".

He says, "It's fair to say I'm agnostic. I think it's very ignorant to say, 'God has a plan.' That's like an excuse.

"Maybe the real faithful act is to commit to something, to take action, as opposed to saying, 'Well, everything is in the hands of God.'"
