Mel Gibson Cuts Controversial Scene From Passion
Hollywood actor Mel Gibson has decided to delete a controversial scene from his upcoming film THE PASSION OF CHRIST, following furious protests from Jewish groups.
A scene in the film, in which the Jewish high priest CAIAPHAS calls down a curse on the Jewish people by declaring that because of JESUS' crucifixion, "His blood will be on us and our children," will not be in the movie's final version when it's released on 25 February (04), says a source close to the production.
The passage had been included in some versions of the film, shown before select groups of mostly priests and ministers.
The source tells America's NEW YORK TIMES, "It didn't work in the focus screenings. Maybe it was thought to be too hurtful, or taken not in the way it was intended. It has been used terribly over the years."
The passage, taken from the BIBLE's MATTHEW 27:25 has long been seen as the historic source for anti-Semitic activities.05/02/2004 00:04
