Rockers Metallica have launched a new live download site following a lengthy battle with music fans who look to the internet to get the latest releases for nothing.

The ENTER SANDMAN group have joined the likes of Pearl Jam in offering fans unedited recordings of shows from their upcoming North American tour for sale via the web.

According to Billboard, audio files from each show on the tour, which began in Phoenix, Arizona, last night (02MAR04), will be available for download four days after each concert on www.LiveMetallica.com.

Drummer LARS ULRICH says, "This is the next logical step in a process that began back in 1991 when we first implemented the TAPER SECTION at our shows, where the fans were encouraged to bring in their own gear to record the show, and then take home their very own bootleg of the concert they had just seen.

"This technology will enable our fans to get the best possible recording of the show, without having to hold a microphone in the air for the entire night!"

Meanwhile, Metallica is promising the upcoming tour will feature a different set list every night as well as rare performances of forgotten tunes.
