Michael Moore To Speak At The University Of Minnesota
Controversial film-maker Michael Moore will speak at the University of Minnesota, despite protests from campus Republicans who didn't want any school funds to pay for the event.
The FAHRENHEIT 9/11 director, noted for his opposition to Republican President George W Bush, will speak at the 14,000-capacity Williams Arena, with his appearance fully sponsored by the MINNESOTA ALLIANCE FOR PROGRESSIVE ACTION.
Moore is on a SLACKER UPRISING TOUR of 60 cities in 20 battleground states in an effort to get non-traditional voters to the polls on the day of the presidential election.
Last week (01OCT04), before Moore's speech was confirmed, the MINNESOTA COLLEGE REPUBLICANS chapter said it would fight if his appearance involved the use of school money. University officials then assured no public or student money would be used.
George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, recently cancelled plans for Moore to speak on campus five days before the 2 November (04) election, after Republicans objected to the school's plan to pay him $35,000 (GBP19,400) for the appearance.06/10/2004 08:49
