Superstar rocker Mick Jagger credits his upbringing for teaching him to be careful with money.

THE Rolling Stones frontman - worth $280 million (GBP175 million) - attributes his legendary meanness down to being brought up in Britain in the post-war years of the 1950s.

Mick, 59, says, "Those of us brought up in the 1950s were taught to be frugal. We don't throw computers away as soon as they don't work.

"We're not brought up like Puff Daddy to be taking 30 freeloading friends to the south of France and spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on CRISTAL champagne.

"The truth is, most English people just don't behave like that."
