Morrissey Advises Bands To Surprise Fans
British singer Morrissey is urging up-and-coming musical acts to follow his example and take the music scene by surprise. Morrissey's former band The Smiths caused a storm when they emerged in the early 1980s and went on to attract a cult following across the world. The star believes too many contemporary bands are over-promoted by their record companies and can't live up to the hype. He says, "(The Smiths) happened while the rest of the world wasn't looking. That's the only way you can surprise people. "You can't surprise people if your arrival is trumpeted by a record company. "You have to tap them on the shoulder and catch their expression when they turn around. As I do frequently."
