Newton-John Was Forced To Tell All About Cancer
Olivia Newton-John became an unintentional champion for the fight against breast cancer, after she was forced to go public about her disease in the early 1990s.
While the GREASE star has been credited with inspiring countless women around the world battling the disease, she admits that reporters ultimately pushed her into going public about her condition.
Newton-John, who has been cancer free since 1993, says, "One of the tabloid press got hold of (the information). I guess there were people in the radiology departments and such.
"They had called me and said, 'We're going to print this big story.' By that time I hadn't really even told a lot of my family. I thought that rather than have it come out as some scary thing and I'm going to die, it would be better to come out.
"And, actually, it was very healthy because it's getting it off your chest and I do believe that we create illnesses through our emotions and parts of our body are related to that."
