Former Nirvana rocker KRIST NOVOSELIC has decided not to run for Washington state, America lieutenant governor - but vows to remain active in politics.

The SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT star, 38, a Democrat, announced plans to run against current lieutenant governor BRAD OWEN in November (03), but after three months considering a political career, Novoselic wants to take more of a backseat.

Novoselic will continue to work with MUSIC FOR AMERICA, which encourages young Americans to vote and continue his campaign to reform the election process.

Novoselic explains, "The whole thing about running a campaign and being a public servant isn't the way to do it.

"I found out firsthand that it's really considered bad form to run against an incumbent of your own party.

"I think every incumbent should be challenged. Competition serves democracy. Look at what it did to our presidential caucuses."
