Hollywood actor AL PACINO is engaged in an email war with his estranged partner and mother of his twins - to ensure his children are spared face-to-face rows between their parents.

The GODFATHER star, 64, and NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION actress BEVERLY D'ANGELO, 52, are conducting their bust-up by email as they battle over whom should have custody of three-year-old twins ANTON and OLIVIA.

An insider explains, "Al and Beverly have completely fallen out of love and now cannot stand the sight of each other.

"The flare-ups between the two of them were becoming so heated and intense that the children were frightened. Day-to-day contact between the two is now like war games."
