New mum Gwyneth Paltrow listened to Icelandic songs as she gave birth to baby APPLE BLYTHE ALISON MARTIN on Friday (14MAY04).

Music by Chris Martin's favourite band, eccentric four-piece group SIGUR ROS, was played in the delivery room at a North London hospital.

The group's first commercial song was a 20-minute instrumental based on the sound of toe taps called BABATIKIDODO and they sing in a made up language called Hopelandish.

Other celebrity fans of Sigur Ros include Brad Pitt, Madonna, and fellow Icelander Bjork.
