Peel Memoirs Under Doubt

Late British DJ John Peel's autobiography is hanging in the balance, following his tragic death this week.

The BBC broadcaster was close to completing the memoirs when he collapsed and died on Monday (25OCT04), while on holiday with his wife SHEILA in Cuzco, Peru.

After signing deal reported to be worth $2.7 million ( GBP1.5 million), Peel was issued a deadline of March 2005 so the book could be ready for release at Christmas 2005.

But a spokesperson at publishers TRANSWORLD says, "John had written about 45-50,000 words, which may be enough to do something but we're not sure.

"We're going to speak to John's wife SHEILA about it sometime soon.

"It's desperately sad."
