Ray's Dvd Release Surpasses Box-Office Takings

Jamie Foxx's OSCAR-nominated biopic Ray has surpassed its American box office by taking $80 million (GBP43 million) in DVD and video sales and rentals.

The story of blues singer Ray Charles, which grossed $74 million (GBP40 million) on its theatre release, earned more than $40 million (GBP22 million) on its first day on DVD release alone and is currently at the top of the home entertainment charts.

The movie is up for six Academy Awards including Best Actor for Foxx, Best Director for Taylor Hackford and Best Picture.
