Redford Urges Journalists To Investigate Bush

LATEST: Robert Redford has urged journalists to investigate US President George W Bush's administration - because he sees strong similarities between Bush's government and the events leading to the Watergate scandal which forced President RICHARD NIXON to resign.

Redford starred in 1976 movie ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN alongside DUSTIN HOFFMAN, as The Washington Post journalists BOB WOODWARD and CARL BERNSTEIN, who brought about the events that led to Nixon's resignation in 1974.

And Redford wasn't surprised when the identity of the mysterious 'Deep Throat' character who sparked the Watergate scandal was recently revealed to be former deputy FBI chief MARK FELT.

But the shock revelation has reminded the actor of the power of the media and the similarities between Bush's secret cover-ups and the Watergate affair.

He says, "There are deep similarities going on but where is the press? where is the press?"

"There is stone-walling, not telling the truth, getting people under wiretaps. The US public continues to be told things that are not true and what worries me is that we have these brave young American guys risking their lives everyday.

"When Deep Throat was revealed, the press came to me and wanted to know what I thought. I said, 'Well, it's interesting that his name came out but is that the point?'

"My contribution was to come at a time when journalism was at its high point and the role I played was to save a testimony to the freedom of speech. The media have changed, we see the ethics have changed. The press is more, I am sorry to say, celebrity oriented."

I'm with the person who said when he goes to the movies it is always in the back of his mind the actors activism. Why can't entertainers do just that and entertain. Why can't they get it that we don't give one hoot in hell how they feel about the President and the state of their politics.I more and more stay away from their movies and their music and they wonder why ticket sales and music sales are way down.It all started with me when Hanoi Jane became a traitor to our country and when instead of actors coming on stage to receive their academy awards, and instead of thanking his or her fans, fellow actors their producers ,directors, and their families for their support they fill their entire time saying how rotten their country and the leaders are and what should be done to improve it.To paraphrase a line from one of the all time great classic movies, when it comes to what an actor or any other entertainer thinks of our President and politics in general."Frankly my dear i don't give a damn".Now just do what we the audience expects from you,SHUT UP AND ENTERTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately for Redford and the author of this train wreck, the things you accuse the President of doing have to be true. I know its hard for a very important big time Hollywood actor to understand this but just because you think it is doesnt mean it really is. While were just throwing out accusations that can be proved I think Redford is a child molester. Of course I dont have any proof of that but I see a lot of similarities between him and other child molesters so I think the press should investigate. As we all know its not the evidence that counts, its the seriousness of the charge. Right?

Redford is swinging his pointless sword, not at the Bush administration, but rather at the dwindling audiences who are making a clear statement to Hollywood. Every time another entertainer speaks millions stay away from the box office.Someone should investigate every "movie fantasy person" who claims a voice or influence over politics. Redford and others like him have no formal education on the subject matter, no practical experience and zero understanding of the geopolitical consequences of every action taken and spoken with respect to international relations. What does Redford gain from his voice?Where is his potential payoff?Who else is a party to his influence or strategy? What role does the press play in fostering or promoting his misguided reasoning?Hollywood must learn that life is a two way street and when they want to drive some hard fast point at the public, an equally hard or stronger point will be driven back.

You know, I am one of those "brave young men" who is about to go down to Iraq and do my duty, and I am greatly encouraged to see that the comments on this story echo my distain for Robert Reford's opinion. Who gives a rats ass what you fake, self-aggrandizing, ego-maniacal, self-absorbed nutjobs in hollywood think, anyway? Just because you played some freak liberal reporter in a movie doesn't make you god's gift to journalism. You aren't a reporter, and neither was your character. I would absolutely love to see any one of these hollywood liberals or the libs in the media step up and put themselves at personal risk for once to defend the country that gives them the freedom they enjoy, rather than lying about how the support the troops. Fsck them.

now that Rove has been outed as the Wilson CIA source, the interesting other question besides the criminal act itself is "how does a political advisor who held no elective or appointed office become privy to classified CIA info" shouldn't the person or persons responsible for giving Rove such access be investigated?

Why do these Hollywood types figure their insights and opinions are so important? Is it because they cab\n get their babble out through the media? None of them have a clue. They don't live in the real world. f**k Redford.

I think Redford is so full of crap; while I admire his work as an actor, his political opinions should be kept to himself and not afforded exposure in the liberal media. It's ironic that he is wondering where "the press" is, since it is more all over Bush than he is - unless the LA Times and NY Times aren't bashing the president enough. What press is he referring to? Or maybe he is only literate enough to read lines and teleprompters.
