Redford: I Dislike Remakes And Sequels

Veteran actor Robert Redford has blasted Hollywood bosses for taking the easy route by releasing sequels and remakes - but admits he'd like to film a follow-up to his 1972 movie The Candidate.

The 66-year-old star is against the idea of rehashing old films, and is always fighting off pressure to shoot a new version of his classic '60s western Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid.

Redford says, "I can't count the number of times I've been asked to remake that film. Studios have also asked me to remake The Way We Were and The Sting, but never as many times as they've suggested Butch Cassidy."

But Redford hopes a sequel to The Candidate will one day be made, because it's a film close to his heart.

He explains, "I'd love to have that character come up against a young guy with the same kind of principals and enthusiasm he had 25 years earlier.

"The new politician would run my guy's old ads and I'd be forced to evaluate my life and career and how far it has strayed. As an actor and a director that scenario interests me."
