Rem's Burma Protest Broadcast
The LOSING MY RELIGION stars will perform the mystery track at a concert in Dublin, Ireland to raise awareness of Kyi's 2,523rd day in detention on her 60th birthday.
The band will also discuss Kyi onstage, because they're disgusted that enemies of her NATIONAL LEAGUE FOR DEMOCRACY party attacked her convoy while she was on a political tour of Burma, and have kept her under house arrest ever since, at her family's compound in Burma's capital Yangon.
Kyi won the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE in 1991, during her longest period of house arrest from 1989 to 1995 in the name of freedom and democracy.
REM frontman MICHAEL STIPE says, "Her dedication, resolve, courage and patience are the mark of a leader. We stand tall for her, as she will again stand tall for herself."
REM, Sir Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, U2, Coldplay, STING and Travis donated songs to an album entitled FOR THE LADY: DEDICATED TO FREEING AUNG SAN SUU KYI AND THE COURAGEOUS PEOPLE OF BURMA last year (04).16/06/2005 14:08
