Reynolds Fought For Father's Acceptance
Veteran star Burt Reynolds found it difficult to impress his father with his Hollywood career - because he refused to accept his acting as real work.
Over the years, the DELIVERANCE star desperately tried to please dad BURTON with his work, but was only successful in the last three years of his life.
Reynolds says, "My father was a cop and a hero in the war. And when I was making a lot of money and doing very well, he said, 'Is he in the business or does he work?'
"He never thought I worked. He never saw what I did from five in the morning until 10 o'clock at night.
"I come from a generation where you try to please your father that's the most important thing in your life. He was always my hero and he never ever acknowledged what I did.
"I made peace with him, finally. He lived to be 93 and I made peace with him when he was 90. It was the best time of my life."20/04/2004 09:33
