Rivers Takes On Impersonator She Sued In Vegas
Comedienne Joan Rivers is set to compete with herself in Las Vegas, Nevada this summer (04) - as she prepares to do battle with a doppelganger she once sued.
Rivers is set for a run at Vegas casino THE STARDUST, which is right across the street from the RIVIERA, where female impersonator Frank Marino has performed for years.
His act includes an impersonation of Rivers - something the real comedienne took umbrage to in the 1980s when she sued him for stealing her jokes.
Marino, who became the first female impersonator sued by one of his characters, confessed he did steal Rivers' gags when he was first starting out, but admits he was too naive to understand why the comic was so upset.
He says, "I ended up going to court with her over a $5 million (GBP2.7 million) lawsuit, which was crazy. Later on, of course, we settled it."
Marino has since become friends with Rivers after agreeing to re-write his act, and now he can't wait to compete with her in Sin City.13/05/2004 09:13
